In order to reset root password on Solaris box, you would need to do the following :

1. Go to OK Prompt by:

<stop> + <a>

or

# init 0

2. Once you got the OK prompt, boot into single user mode:

OK> boot cdrom -s

3. Mount the root directory, On a typical system, it’s probably c0t0d0s0 or c0t0d0s1:

# mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s1 /

4. Make a copy of /etc/shadow.

# cp /etc/shadow /etc/shadow.backupcopy

5. Edit /etc/shadow file

# vi /etc/shadow

Your /etc/shadow should look like this:
root:<password>::877667

6. Delete the password of the root user (Leave the second field empty, dont change anything else):

root:<password>::877667

edit to

root:::877667

7. Reboot the box
8. Login to root account with no password.

My best friend asked me on how can she use yahoo messenger in office. It was blocked by the administrator. My dearie Maizura, you need to do the following steps:

1. Go to Your freedom (http://www.your-freedom.net )website.
2. Register yourself. You should see the following text "First visit? Click here to register", click on it.
3. Login to the email you register with and click on the activate link provided in the email.
4. Login to Your freedom
5. Click on Download button.
6. Download the latest version of your freedom client. In my example version 20080407-01
7. Extract the zip file (freedom-20080407-01.zip) into a directory eg: freedom.
8. Double clicks freedom.jar file and then click on configure button. You should get the following screen : (more…)
