Reset root password on linux red hat vmware

I forgot my root password on my linux vmware. Here are the steps that I do in order to reset it.

  1. Press any key to go to the menu :rhat4-18-2008-11.49.25 PM.gif
  2. Press "e " when you see the following menu: rhat4-18-2008-11.49.58 PM.gif
  3. Select the image you want to load and press "e ": rhat4-18-2008-11.50.38 PM.gif
  4. Type " 1 " (fyi it space and number one) as in following screen and press enter : rhat4-18-2008-11.50.56 PM.gif
  5. Press "b " here to boot to single user: rhat4-18-2008-11.51.17 PM.gif
  6. You would get the following promt without being asked for password : rhat4-18-2008-11.52.12 PM.gif
  7. Type the change password command which is "passwd " and set your new password : rhat4-18-2008-11.52.58 PM.gif
  8. Reboot our system by typing "reboot " : rhat4-18-2008-11.53.11 PM.gif
  9. When prompt for password key in the new password just set up.
  10. By now you should be able to login to the system : rhat4-18-2008-11.56.24 PM.gif

Hope this help anyone that hit the same problem as me.
